Chapter 1

Introduction

This Chapter provides an overview of the UniGateway EH-2101W's features

and capabilities.

Congratulations on the purchase of your new UniGateway EH-2101W. The UniGateway EH-

2101W is a multi-function device providing the following services:

•

Wireless LAN Access Point

(base station) for equipment compliant with the

IEEE802.11b (DSSS) specifications.

•

Shared Broadband Internet Access

via an DSL or Cable modem on the WAN

(Ethernet) port, OR via an analog modem or ISDN TA on the Serial (RS232) port.

•

4-Port Switching Hub

for 10BaseT or 100BaseT connections.

•

Network Printer

- LAN and WLAN users can share the printer attached to the UniGate-

way EH-2101W.

•

RAS (Remote Access Service) Dial-in

- Remote users can use the UniGateway EH-

2101W to connect to the LAN and access LAN resources, including the UniGateway EH-

2101W's printer and Broadband Internet access.

UniGateway EH-2101W Features

The UniGateway EH-2101W incorporates many advanced features, carefully designed to

provide sophisticated functions while being easy to use.

Internet Access Features

•

Shared Internet Access.

All users on the LAN or WLAN can access the Internet

through the UniGateway EH-2101W, using only a single external IP Address. The local

(invalid) IP Addresses are hidden from external sources. This process is called NAT

(Network Address Translation).

•

DSL & Cable Modem Support.

The UniGateway EH-2101W has a 10BaseT Ethernet

port for connecting a DSL or Cable Modem. All popular DSL and Cable Modems are sup-

ported.
